Gaden Relief has been funding nunneries in Zangskar since 1991, with the assistance of Professor Kim Gutschow, Lecturer in the Departments of Anthropology and Religion at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Kim Gutschow visited Zangskar every year between 1989 and 2002, while she or Field Officer Lauren Galvin have managed projects there every year since 2006. So far Gaden Relief has disbursed more than $75,000 of financial and technological assistance in the form of appropriate technology, passive solar constructions, greenhouses, compost toilets, solar lanterns, smokeless stoves, and other means of supporting the nuns’ ritual and scholarly activities.

Since 1991, sponsorships and individual donations from individuals who reside in Canada, United States, Europe, and Australia, have provided a lifeline to over 100 nuns in the region who live at the poverty line in this region. Please consider making a donation today using the link at the bottom of the page.
